Eurotrip Day 3

WE SCALED THE CLIFFS OF MOHER AND IT WAS AMAZING!!

Whew, it feels good to share that!

Here is a travelers tip for you: if you have the opportunity and the ability to plan your own itinerary and NOT participate in group tours/tour buses - Do it! Even better, if you can share your own itinerary with like-minded, adventurous friends - Do it!

So, today our plan was to drive our rental car cross-country to the west coast of Ireland. We would visit the beautiful Cliffs of Moher, take lots of great photos, and head back when we got tired. I'm literally laughing as I type that.

As soon as we caught sight of the cliffs, there was no stopping us. We just kept walking and walking in awe of their massive beauty. If you never see it in person, you'll never see it in pictures. The best camera in the world just can't capture it's magnificence. Before we knew it, we were walking right by the protective dont-fall-over-the-edge barrier and didn't look twice at the sign warning 'you are now leaving the park' ..or something like that. Other people were doing it too!

When we rounded the corner though, something caught our eye. Somehow, locals...snorkelers... we're at the bottom of the cliffs on the rocky cove below.

We knew we had to get there.

We spotted a (very steep) path-less-traveled and basically hiked all the way down the cliffs.

The cove at the bottom was amazing and the small rocks we saw from the top were actually HUGE boulders and giant pieces of the cliff side that had fallen off.

We stayed for a while enjoying the view, trying to memorize it, until the tide began to come in.

The hike back up was much harder, but so worth it.

After we left the cliffs, we set off through the Burren in search of Sean's Bar: The oldest bar in Ireland and perhaps the world. After an enjoyable disagreement with our GPS, we finally found it. We truly expected a 'tourist trap' feel, but this pub was packed to the gills with locals. We enjoyed a few pints and then set off in search for dinner.

With all the fun we'd been having, we couldn't believe it was already after 9:00pm! The sun was still bright and cheery which totally threw off our sense of time and any chance at landing a reservation anywhere. Finally, a little Italian (yes, I ate Italian in Ireland, sue me.) restaurant by the name of Di Bella's saved us from starvation.

It was the perfect ending to an unbelievable day. After the long drive back to our airbnb, we slept like the rocks at the bottom our our cliff.
